Installing PBXDA-AB Serial Controller Drivers

This knowledge base article provides the following useful information for the PBXDA-AB Serial Controller present as the TX in the CHARON-AXP/SMA virtual machine:

These instructions are targeted at the guest system and as such apply to environments hosted by CHARON-AXP/SMA for Microsoft Windows.

The OpenVMS Alpha Digi AccellePort Device Drivers ship with the CHARON-AXP/SMA for Microsoft Windows. For further information, please see the relevant user's guide for instructions on installation.

Installing Under DEC OSF/1, Digital UNIX and Tru64 UNIX

To install the Digi AccelePort Driver for UNIX, follow the steps below:

1.Download the appropriate kit for your version of DEC OSF/1, Digital UNIX or Tru64 UNIX from the table above.
2.

Unpack the kit:

# tar xvf 4001180*.bin

3.

Execute the software product installation:

# setld -l /tmp/digi

Installing Under OpenVMS Alpha

To install the Digi AccelePort Driver for OpenVMS Alpha, follow the steps below:

1.Download the zipped PCSI kit for your version of OpenVMS Alpha from the table above.
2.

Unpack the kit:

$ UNZIP -j DIGI-AXPVMS-DGDRIVER*PCSI.ZIP

3.

Execute the PCSI software installation:

$ PRODUCT INSTALL/HELP DGDRIVER*

Perform the post-installation task detailed on the terminal following installation:

  • Add contents of DIGI$DRIVER:MAKE_DIGI_LOGICAL.COM to SYS$STARTUP:SYLOGICALS.COM.
  • Run the driver setup procedure, @DIGI$DRIVER:DG_SETUP.COM.
  • Adjust BYTLM of appropriate user accounts to at least 45000.
  • Adjust SYSGEN parameter MAXBUF to at least 45000.
  • Add @DIGI$DRIVER:DIGI_INSTALL_EPCA.COM to SYS$MANAGER:SYSTARTUP_VMS.COM.

To protect OpenVMS file attributes the POLYCENTER Software Installation (PCSI) kits are distributed as zip files. If your system is without the UNZIP utility it can be found easily from a number of different sources. The most available being either the OpenVMS Freeware collection (any version) which is distributed with the OpenVMS Alpha operating system or online from the OpenVMS Freeware Archive.
