CHARON Log files - Using baretail on Windows for syntax highlighting

Description

For ease of reading it is possible to use some tools to highlight some lines in the CHARON log files.

Baretail is one of these tools and is:

A free real-time log file monitoring tool.

  • Real-time file viewing

  • Follow tail mode (like tail -f on Unix)

  • View files of any size (> 2GB)

  • Scroll to any point in the file instantly

  • Configurable highlighting

  • Monitor multiple files simultaneously

  • Visual indication of file status/changes

  • International character sets (Unicode and UTF-8)

  • Many file formats (Win32, Unix, Microsoft IIS logs)

  • Flexible configuration options and storage

  • Single small executable, no installer

Settings

Download the configuration file customized for CHARON logs:

Open "baretail" executable file and load the settings from this file:

(warning) Once loaded, save the settings to the Registry so that this operation will not have to be repeated each time "baretail" is executed

You can also add your own settings by click on the "Highlighting" option or button:

(info) By default settings are saved in the registry. If you want to export and share your settings with others, use the "Save to File..." option from the "Preferences" menu:

(question) Depending on CHARON version, the log files have different encoding. By default "baretail" will open files in ANSI mode:

To solve this, switch to UNICODE format:
