Licensing Glossary
This page contains the definition of commonly used licensing terms.
| Term | Description |

| Baremetal product | The underlying host operating system of the Charon emulator product is not visible to users. Licenses must be managed via the provided product GUI. |
| Cloned software license | A software license is in cloned state if relevant hardware parameters of the host system have been changed. A cloned license is invalid. |
| Customer-to-Vendor (C2V) file | File containing information about the currently installed license. Sent to Stromasys to request a license update. |
| Fingerprint file | File containing the hardware characteristics of the system – required for requesting a software license. |
| Hardware license (HL) | USB dongle containing the license data. Can be easily moved between systems. |
| HASP | Hardware-assisted software protection (Name of Sentinel/Gemalto licensing products). |
| Host-based product | The underlying host operating system of the Charon emulator product is visible to users and must be managed by them. Licenses often can be managed via the command-line and a provided product GUI. |
| Network license | License that a license server can provide to clients on the network. Hardware-based network licenses are red. Software licenses are always network-enabled. |
| RUS, HASPRUS | License Update Service (Remote Update Service) on Windows. |
| Sentinel Admin Control Center (ACC) | Web-based GUI to view and manage licenses. |
| Sentinel Runtime Software | Drivers needed to access a hardware or software license. |
| Software license (SL) | License installed without a USB dongle. Tied to the hardware of the system for which it was requested. |
| Vendor-to-Customer (V2C) file | File containing the information needed to install a new software license or to update an existing license. Sent to the customer by Stromasys in response to receiving a C2V file. |
| Virtual Environment (VE) License server | Licensing alternative optimized for cloud environments. Please refer to Virtual Environment (VE) License Server Documentation. |
