Goals of this Document
This document has the following goals:
Enable users of the Charon software to manage Sentinel HASP licenses for Charon emulator products.
Provide detailed procedures for frequently required tasks.
Provide a consolidated source of information on Sentinel HASP licensing for current product versions.
This document does not address commercial licensing topics in any depth. Please contact the Stromasys Sales team (info@stromasys.com) for any commercial inquiries.
Please note: this document does not cover the new Virtual Environment licensing product offered by Stromasys. For details about VE licenses and the VE license server, please refer to the Virtual Environment (VE) License Server Documentation.
Target Audience
This document is aimed at technical staff at Stromasys, at partners, and at customers who need to manage Sentinel HASP licenses for Stromasys emulator products. It assumes a basic technical knowledge of Linux and Microsoft Windows.

Document Structure
The document contains the following main sections:
- Sentinel HASP Licensing Overview: This section briefly describes the available license types and their main characteristics. It shows the content of the license, i.e., the parameters defining the license. It shows how an emulator checks for a valid license, and it provides a brief overview of operational procedures, such as license installation and update.
- Emulator Product Overview: Charon product overview, and overview of license driver versions included in products.
- License Management Tasks - Overview: Introduction to technical tasks that are described in detail in the sections that follow this overview. Overview of required permissions for certain license management actions.
- License Management Tools - Overview: Overview of license management tools that are described in detail in the section that follow this overview.
- License Management Tasks - Details: This section describes a number of common management tasks in detail for Linux and Microsoft Windows. It also describes the software packaging to show which parts of a full emulator product contain the license-specific parts that can be used to install a dedicated license server. The main tasks described are:
- Sentinel HASP Software Packaging and Installation Overview: Overview of which packages in the regular product kits are required for licensing. Brief installation overview.
- Installing and Updating a License: This section describes in detail how to install and update software and hardware licenses. It explains how to work with C2V (customer-to-vendor) and V2C (vendor-to-customer) files.
- Viewing a License: This section describes how to display the different aspects and content details of a license.
- Removing a License: Steps to remove a previously installed license from the system.
- Handling Multiple License Keys and Product Licenses: This section describes the configuration options to control the use of multiple license keys and multiple product licenses. It also describes the backup key characteristics.
- Tasks Specific to Network Licenses: When licenses are served to Charon emulator hosts by a license server, there are specific points that should be taken into account. This section describes these aspects and different configuration options.
- Monitoring Licenses: The Charon emulator products write log files that also contain license specific information. This section describes the log files and provides some monitoring samples.
- Removing the Sentinel Runtime Software: Steps to remove the Sentinel emulator software from the system.
- Tools Reference: Details about license management tools (OS-independent, Linux, Windows, Charon-SSP GUI, Sentinel ACC).
- Troubleshooting: Common error codes, description of typical licensing problems.
- Resources: Links to additional documentation.
- Appendix 1 - Product-Specific License Guides: Summary of license operation for Charon-AXP/VAX on Windows and Linux, and Charon-PAR.
