Description

This is the Patch Release Notes for Charon-PDP version 4.9 build 194-08 for Windows, a cumulative patch for Charon-PDP version 4.9 build 194-02 for Windows

This is a cumulative patch, which means that it also includes all the fixes provided by previous patch versions.

Problems fixed

Problems fixed by patch 194-08

  • None. This build is only used to have the same build number if Charon-VAX and/or Charon-AXP are/is installed on the same server.

Problems fixed by patch 194-07

  • Incorrect service dependencies when upgrading existing Charon virtual machines (ID#5546)
  • Error during installation leading to NDIS Packet driver not installed (ID#5544)
  • HALT is not available (disabled, greyed out) on emulator's system tray menu (ID#5437 and ID#5451)
  • Charon reports "Can not change current ethernet address..." as an error instead of a warning (ID#5443)
  • No network connection when packet_port is in legacy mode (ID#5427)

Problems fixed by patch 194-06

  • HOSTprint did not work on Windows 10 (ID#5054)
  • Status is still shown as "dedicated to HOST" when a network adapter is dedicated to Charon (ID#5415, 5429)
  • "license_key_lookup_retry" functionality has been broken (so no retry was performed) (ID#5538)
  • HASP License Details (HASP View) utility:
    • All licenses can be listed in command line mode: hasp_view -report <file> -all  (ID#5442)
    • Did not detect "no power" status correctly (ID#5458, 5459)
  • Network Control Center (NCC) utility is improved (ID#5497)
  • Unexpected forced Windows reboot during Charon installation (ID#5455)
  • Installation procedure is improved (ID#5476, 5477, 5479, 5485, 5504, 5506, 5516, 5517)
  • Outdated copyright in exe/dll distribution files are corrected (ID#5503)
  • Charon virtual machines (services) dependency lost with "Sentinel LDK License Manager" (hasplms) service (ID#5529)
  • Incorrect selection of default product version while creating a virtual machine with the Charon Virtual Machines Manager (ID#5530)
  • CHMAC installation failure (ID#5508)

Installation

  1. Login into account which is used for Charon management (typically "Administrator" or another account with local admin privileges)
  2. Stop all running Charon virtual machines
  3. Close all Charon utilities (Charon VM Manager, logmond if started in the background, etc...)
  4. If any other Charon patch has been already installed, please remove it first according to the "Uninstallation" instruction given below and then reboot the host system
  5. Unpack the patch into a temporary folder
  6. Run "InstallShell.exe"
  7. Select "Charon-PDP B19408 patch" in the "Products" dialog
  8. Proceed with default installation of this patch product
  9. Reboot Windows


Notes

  1. Users having problems with NDIS Packet driver installation can run the Network Control Center and install the driver once the patch is applied.
  2. If Charon-PDP, Charon-AXP or/and Charon-VAX are running on the same server, they must be patched at the same time.
  3. In case either Charon-AXP, Charon-VAX or Charon-PDP is installed & patched, if you install Charon-VAX, Charon-PDP or Charon-AXP later, you will have to answer "No to all" to the question: "The local file has more recent modification date. Overwrite this file?"
  4. After installation of the patch on Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 hosts the following error may occur (very rare): "The system cannot find the file specified. Failed to create symbolic link to the packet driver". The following procedure must then be applied:
    1. Open up "Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center"
    2. Select "Change Adapter settings"
    3. Select each network interface used for Charon and with right click of mouse select "Disable"
    4. Select each network interface used for Charon and with right click of mouse select "Enable"
    5. Start Charon

Deinstallation

  1. Login into account which is used for Charon management (typically "Administrator" or another account with local admin privileges)
  2. Stop all running Charon virtual machines
  3. If the patch distribution is not preserved on the server, unpack the patch into a temporary folder
  4. Run "InstallShell.exe"
  5. Select "Charon-PDP B19408 patch" in the "Products" dialog
  6. Proceed with default deinstallation of this patch product
  7. All the Charon-PDP B19402 executable files will be restored automatically
  8. Reboot Windows


Tip

If you plan to remove Charon-PDP completely you should first deinstall the patch then, after Windows reboot, run InstallShell.exe again and deinstall Charon-PDP product as described here: CHARON-VAX and CHARON-PDP for Windows deinstallation
