Description

This document should describe all the hardware and software changes that can make a software license invalid and contain all information related to Software License usage.

Restrictions

On a physical host Sentinel (HASP) SL key is bound to the following parameters

  • HDD ID
  • Motherboard ID

(warning) The license is invalidated if both parameters change

(warning) The SL key blocking engine is not under STROMASYS control and may be changed without any notification from Sentinel.

On a virtual host Sentinel (HASP) SL key is bound to the following parameters

  • MAC address of the first virtual network interface
  • CPU attributes of the physical (hypervisor host) processor
  • UUID of the virtual machine

(warning) The license is invalidated if any of the above parameters changes

(warning) The SL key blocking engine is not under STROMASYS control and may be changed without any notification from Sentinel.

Additional potential restrictions

The secure storage for a Sentinel software license is on the hard drive of the computer on which the license is installed. Restoring a system from backup or copying the software license on another host will most likely invalidate this storage and with it the software license - even though none of the documented parameters for cloning detection have changed. This is not under the control of Stromasys.
For this reason, and because software licenses are very sensitive to any changes in the physical or virtual hardware, it is highly recommended to have access to a backup license when using software licenses.

Please contact Stromasys support should you encounter a problem with a software license after restoring a backup of your system.

Network distribution

(info) The Software License (SL) can also be installed on any host on the local network and the hosts on that network can use it. In this case, the SL clients can be hardware upgraded without license change. Only an upgrade of the SL server hardware will require a license update.

Date limitation

It is possible to combine in one Software License a time-limited license for one product with an unlimited license for another product.

SL license can support the same restrictions as a License from the physical (Sentinel HASP Net Time) dongle.

Example: a DS10 with unlimited license and a DS20 with 2 months limitation.

License generation

A host fingerprint data file must be generated on the target system and provided to Stromasys to request a Software License from STROMASYS. The host fingerprint data is in C2V (Customer-to-Vendor) file format.

To generate the C2V data file, use the License Update Service (for Windows) or hasp_srm_view utility (for Linux) with no local or networking dongle connected.

Uses the Sentinel Admin Control Center (http://localhost:1947) to check if a dongle is connected.

(warning) Ensure the Sentinel HASP run time from CHARON installation package is installed and running at the host before producing the C2V data.

For SL licenses we recommended to run this utility from the local console, not via RDP.

STROMASYS will produce a V2C (Vendor-to-Customer) License file and sends back to the customer for installation.
