Virtual machine cannot be started when using the Linux Toolkit

Problem

When starting a virtual machine on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.x, nothing occurs, no information reported in the Charon log file.

Related versions:

  • Linux Toolkit all versions
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.x

(info) Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x and CentOS 7.x are not affected.

Solution

Check the root password is not expired using the following command:

# chage -l root

Last password change : password must be changed

Password expires : password must be changed

Password inactive : password must be changed

Account expires : never

Minimum number of days between password change : 0

Maximum number of days between password change : 60

Number of days of warning before password expires : 7

(lightbulb) If the password must be changed, the Linux toolkit is not able to start the virtual machine. Solution is to change the root password immediately.

(grey lightbulb) If this is not the case, please contact our support team.
