CHARON on Windows - A required privilege is not held by the client

Problem

The guest cannot start with the following messages:

20140821:174229:ERROR:2:00000160:marray.cxx( 296): (1314) A required privilege is not held by the client. : Failed to allocate 131072 physical pages (536870912 bytes).
20140821:174229:ERROR:2:00000171:ramemul.cx( 783): ram: Failed to reserve 128MB ram segment.
20140821:174229:ERROR:2:00000160:marray.cxx( 296): (1314) A required privilege is not held by the client. : Failed to allocate 16 physical pages (65536 bytes).
The previous message has been repeated 24 times.
20140821:174229:ERROR:2:00000170: node.cxx( 534): The configured node failed to initialize due to configuration errors.
20140821:174229:INFO :0:00000348:ataunit.cx(1742): ide0 is being set OFFLINE
The previous message has been repeated 4 times.
20140821:174229:INFO :0:00000378:ethane.cxx(2600): ES40_vms failed to start at Thu Aug 21 17:42:29 2014.
20140821:174229:ERROR:2:0000007E:ethane.cxx(1292): (1300) Not all privileges or groups referenced are assigned to the caller. : session: Failed to start the configuration.
20140821:174229:INFO :0:0000024A:ethane.cxx( 77): Logging stopped.

Solution

 

Perform the following operations:
  1. Check the user belongs to the CHARON-GRP group
  2. Execute the "gpedit.msc" program and navigate to "Computer Configuration" → "Windows Settings" → "Security Settings" → "Local Policies" → "User Rights Assignment" and verify the "Lock pages in memory" policy contains the CHARON-GRP group. If not assign the CHARON-GRP group to the policy, the user must log off then log in for these settings to be taken into account
