Charon-SSP License Update Tool

The Charon-SSP License Update tool provides the following options:

  • Create a C2V or a fingerprint file.
  • Apply a V2C file (new software license or update of existing license).

Accessing the License Update tool is slightly different in different versions of Charon-SSP, as shown below:

In older versions of Charon-SSP, The license updater is started via Tools > License Tools > License Update:

In current versions, the license updater is started via Tools > HASP Tools > HASP Update:

Generating Customer to Vendor (C2V) Information

Charon-SSP before Version 5.x

Perform the following steps to generate a C2V or fingerprint file:

StepDescription for Generating a C2V File
1Open the license (or HASP) update tool as described above:

2

Click the tab labeled Export C2V File. Then select the type of license in License type drop-down box. There are two options to choose from:

  • Hardware License – ensure that the USB HASP key is connected to the host system. If several hardware licenses are connected and you need to create a C2V file for a specific one,

    • use Sentinel ACC to create the C2V file, or

    • temporarily remove all but the one relevant dongle (versions before version 2.0), or

    • enter the license ID of the relevant license in the License ID field (available starting with version 2.0).

  • Software License – ensure that no conflicting licenses are attached.

    • If this option is selected, the Charon-SSP Manager assumes that a fingerprint for a new software license or a C2V to update an existing software license should be created. It checks if there is already an existing license.

      • If yes, the steps below will create a C2V file to request an update to this existing license.

      • If no, the steps below will create a fingerprint file to request a new software license.

    • In versions before version 4.0, remote network licenses (software or hardware licenses) impact correct fingerprint creation. They can be temporarily disabled via the license manager or in Sentinel ACC.

    • If a conflicting USB HASP key is attached, a C2V file may be created for the existing USB dongle instead of a fingerprint file. If the dongle cannot be removed and you need to create a fingerprint file, please use the hasp_srm_view -fgp command instead (not available on Baremetal).

    • The option to select a specific license for C2V (update) creation is not available if the software license option is selected. Alternative options to select a specific license are C2V creation using Sentinel ACC or the command-line tool hasp_srm_view -c2v -key <license-id> <filename>.

3
  • Provide a file name in the C2V file field.

  • Specify where the C2V file should be saved on the local system (where the manager is running) by clicking the path adjacent to the Location label.

  • Click the button labeled Apply.

4

After a few moments the utility will respond with a confirmation box similar to the example.

Click the button labeled OK to proceed.

Charon-SSP Version 5.x and Higher

Perform the following steps to generate a C2V or fingerprint file:

StepDescription
1Open the HSAP update tool as described above:

2

Select the Export C2V File tab.

Select the type of operation in License drop-down box. There are two options to choose from:

a) Option Existing License: used to create the C2V file required for license updates (for hardware and software license updates). USB dongles are always considered to be existing licenses even at initial installation.

Enter the ID of the license in question into the License ID field. The license ID can be found using the license viewer tool.

b) Option New Software License: used to create a fingerprint for a new software license.

Applying Vendor to Customer (V2C) License Update

After sending the C2V (customer to vendor) file to Stromasys Orders Administration (see Sending C2V File to Stromasys and Obtaining V2C File), you will receive the necessary license files (V2C file(s)) from Stromasys. Depending on certain factors you will receive one or two V2C files. Once you have received the response from Stromasys Orders Administration, follow the instructions below to apply the V2C (vendor to customer) files and license the software.

StepDescription for Applying a V2C File
1

Save the V2C (vendor to customer) files received from Stromasys Orders Administration. Depending on the license type, this may be one or two files:

  1. A license file to format the key (for hardware licenses only). The file name is of the format *_fmt.v2c.

  2. The license key file. The file name is of the format *.v2c.

Steps 2 to 4 must be performed for each of the V2C files, starting with the format key file (if it exists).

2
  • Open the License Update (or HASP Update) window as described above.

  • Select the tab Import V2C File.

3

Locate the saved V2C files by clicking on the button labeled “…”. If a format key file exists, select this file first.

4

Apply the license file by clicking on the button labeled Apply.

5

If a second license key file was supplied, repeat the process for the second file.
