This guide is intended for anyone who needs to install, configure, or manage the Stromasys Charon-SSP VPC cloud BYOL license server. VPC stands for Virtual Private Cloud. A general working knowledge of PC operating systems and their conventions is expected. BYOL stands for "Bring your own license". This means that for the cloud-specific Charon-SSP emulator software that uses such a license server, customers have to purchase their license from Stromasys. This is different from the cloud-specific marketplace images where licensing happens automatically when the cloud instance is launched.

This getting-started guide covers the Charon-SSP Cloud BYOL License Server software. This appliance package contains a license server application that can be installed in customer-specific AWS, OCI and Azure environments. Extension of the feature to VMware environments is planned for the future. The VPC This license feature enables customers to run, for example, Charon-SSP in a virtual private customer-specific cloud environment without requiring Internet access to reach a license server. The license server is managed by the customer.

(warning) VPC BYOL licenses provided by a VPC cloud BYOL license server require a specific VPC-capable variant of the Charon-SSP software (Charon-SSP VPC available starting with version 4.2.x). The tests in this guide were performed with a pre-release of version 4.2. For a full description of Charon-SSP version 4.2 aspects that are not related to the specifics of the VPC cloud BYOL license application, please refer to the full user's guide of your product variant.
