This guide is intended for anyone who needs to install, configure, or manage the Stromasys Charon-SSP cloud BYOL Virtual Environment (VE) license server. A general working knowledge of PC operating systems and their conventions is expected. BYOL VE stands for "Bring your own license". This means that for the cloud-specific Charon-SSP emulator software that uses such a license server, Virtual Environment". The term refers to cloud environments and (planned for future versions) VMware ESXi environments. For Charon-SSP products using such licenses customers have to purchase their license from Stromasys. This is different from the cloud-specific marketplace images where licensing is configured automatically when the cloud instance is launched.

This getting-started guide covers the Charon-SSP Cloud BYOL VE License Server software. This package contains a license server application that can be installed in customer-specific AWS, OCI and Azure environments. Extension of the feature to additional cloud environments and VMware environments is planned for the future. This license feature enables customers to run, for example, Charon-SSP in a customer-specific cloud environment without requiring Internet access to reach a license server. The license server is managed by the customer.

BYOL VE licenses provided by a cloud BYOL VE license server require a specific variant of the Charon-SSP software (Charon-SSP available starting with version 4.2.x). The tests in this guide were performed with a pre-release of version 4.2. For a full description of Charon-SSP version 4.2 aspects that are not related to the specifics of the cloud BYOL VE license application, please refer to the full user's guide of your product variant.
